DeLuca Gabriel | VBAC Birth Story | El Paso, Tx

December 11, 2017

When Ashley contacted me in May, I couldn't reply fast enough! Ashley and Andrew would be welcome baby no. 4, their last addition.  Ashley was able to birth her first two children completely natural, however baby no. 3 was delivered via c-section at 37 weeks, so we were optimistic for a successful VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). With a November 28th due date, Ashley was booked and the wait began!

Sunday Night, November 19th I received a text from Ashley saying she was feeling pressure and that it was becoming more and more consistent and uncomfortable. I was sure it was go time! Welp, mother nature works on her own time and got our hopes up, but not for too long. The next night I went to bed as usual but for some reason woke up at 1am on the dot. I took the dogs out (Cause why not, its only 1am...) and just moments later a text came in saying that they were on their way to the birth center! My Birth Tog senses must have been tingling.

I arrived at 1:20am to a laboring Ashley. She was 6cm, babies heart was strong, and each contraction was bringing him closer and closer. With her amazing husband never more than a few inches away, this mama stayed focused. So focused apparently, that she gave birth just two and a half hours after we arrived! With 10 fingers, 10 toes, a full head of hair and an incredible set of lungs, DeLuca Cortez was brought earthside at 3:24am <3

I was an honor to be in attendance as Ashley and Andrew welcomed this sweet boy.
